Dean, My reaction reading your comment is frustration! And here is why. That was illegal for that notary to do. PA Notaries MUST honor a lawful and reasonable request. Employers may not limit their notaries form notarizing for non customers. Too many employers believe since they pay them (the notary) they have the right to control them. And that they own the "notary seal" which is absolutely false. There are so many who do not know the law. I am glad you went elsewhere and got the service you deserve!

We had a real estate document to notorize and Bank of America refused to notorize my signature because I did not have an account. My wife has had an account there for years and they would notorize hers only. Is this legal or is the decision a policy one only. I would never give them my business so if that was their motivation to black mail me, it did not work. We went to my bank USBank that was happy to notorize both and run copies for free.

I agree with you, dealing with ID requirements with seniors is frustrating. Thank you for the great idea of speaking at senior functions to proactively address these issues. That is what it's all about isn't it? Public Services.
